(TV version 1963) Interesting Bit of Trivia: The poster was completed six months before the final Alien design was completed. Originally, as you can see the Aliens were to be giant walking / talking brussel sprouts with bulbous eyes! And how stupid would that have looked? Cast Of Characters: THE HERO: Rock Steel: (22) Jet pilot, Deep-sea diver and Speedway Driver; Rock has a serious relationship with mirrors. Most of the time he stands around admiring his reflection in any mirror, window, or other shiny objects. Knows how to light a cigarette 20 different ways. Good with a comb. Not bad in a fight, throws a mean right hook! (Seen here in the café scene staring at his own reflection) THE HEROINE: Stella Curtis-Douglas-Burton-Presley: (19) Ex-magician's assistant & empty airhead who hopes one day to marry Rock and produce 2.4 kids. Likes dresses that are way to big for her. Seems to attract attention from the wrong sort of people. Good at being sawn in half! (Seen here in the café scene, where she’s spraying whipped cream on her naked upper body!) THE BULLY: Buff 'who you looking at?' Tucker: (22) Town drunk and general troublemaker. Likes young girls, but couldn't eat a whole one. Once won a pig fighting contest. (sorry that should have read, Pig beauty contest). Can drink twice his own body weight. Knits all his own frocks! (Seen here in a scene where he’s using a phone) THE SLIMEBALL: Sam: (28) Co-owner of the small seaside café' 'Sam & Ella's'. He's seen it all before. He's had Birds attacking the café, Giant Crabs', Dinosaurs, ½ gorilla ½ deep sea diver aliens and killer shrews. Doesn't want any trouble, but sure gets it! (Seen here in a scene where he’s using a phone) THE GIRL YOU FEEL SORRY FOR! Ella: (21) Long suffering wife & sister of Sam, co-owner of 'Sam & Ella's' café'. She wishes she'd moved to Birmingham with mum, dad and her other three brothers! Plays a mean banjo! (Seen here in a scene where she’s using a phone) THE SCIENTIST: Professor Xenophobic: (75) Eccentric friend of Stella & Rock who tries to come up with a reason and cure for what's going on, only to end up paying for it! (Seen here in a scene where she’s using a phone) THE INNOCENT VICTIM: 'Chuck': (24) The unknowing Highway Patrol officer who falls foul of the alien's evil plan to dominate the Earth, and ends up paying for it!! (Seen here in a scene where he’s using a Radio Mike to call for back-up) THE ENEMY: The Alien: Not much is known about this alien creature; apart from the fact it's here to take over the Earth in a hostile manner. (As always) (Seen here in a scene where he’s probably using an Alien phone) Trivia fact: The delightful thing about all the alien scenes are that you never get to see too much of the creature. (Which if you look carefully at the above picture here, you can see in reality was just a man in a rubber suit!! Amazing stuff!) The Story: (Narration starts) Space, several million miles big, or maybe even bigger, who knows? Somewhere from out there something approaches, something big, something shiny, something on a mission. What is that mission? Hopefully you'll never find out, but if you do… Beware! All those people who sleep alone at night,… Beware! Mr. Joe Average in the street, …Beware! Everybody on Earth, …Beware! It's coming! …Beware! Space. (Night time) Earth seen from a few hundred miles away. A space ship descending towards the Earth. It disappears into the cloud. (Fade to black) end of prologue 11.00am 'Radioactive Sands' Beach (Bright sunshine) Rock Steel & Stella Curtis-Douglas-Burton-Presley are playing on the beach (Beach ball) when suddenly a gang of (zombie like) bathers who want their blood approaches them! Rock manages to knock out a few (with one punch, of course) Rock & Stella run to Rock's car. (Which is luckily parked about 10 feet away and unlocked, of course!) Rock fiddles with the ignition. The car won't start. (as always) One of the zombies punches out the passenger side window (as always). Rock gets out his side and pulls Stella through and out the driver's side. (Where luckily, there are no zombies at all!) They run into a small seaside café. (Sam & Ella's) (Where other people are hiding) Slamming the doors behind them. Searching the café, they find a loaded hand gun under the counter (as always) The man who owns the café, (Sam) Says, " I don't want no trouble!" (In a southern accent) repeatedly (As always) Ella: (Sam's wife/sister) " You mind my banjo!" (This is one of those Chekhov's gun moments, as the banjo will come in handy later!) 5 minutes later, Rock heads outside (under the cover of darkness) to try to get some transport. (Taking the gun with him.) Stella waits in the café under the watchful eye of the local bully/drunk. 6'4" Buff Tucker. Rock manages to get a car started and is headed back to the café, when, the tyre explodes…. Meanwhile Buff has made some moves on Stella, She slaps him, which he sees as a turn-on, and tries to kiss Stella. At that moment, Rock punches him out! (With one punch, as always) Stella: "I was so worried" Rock: "Had a little car trouble." (Bright sunshine) [Flashback] He explains that a highway patrol officer (Chuck) came to his rescue, but as soon as he used his Walkie Talkie Radio Mike to ask for back-up, (on a tyre change!) " He turned kinda' funny" and Rock had to shoot him six times before he'd stop! Stella (Staring into the camera) " Do you think, It's... got... something... to do... with the phones! " Just then, they notice that just about everyone in the café has been using their mobile phones to phone somebody, and pass on the bad news! Oops! Rock: "Yeah Stella, I think you're right. Quick grab Buff, and let's get out of here." (Just as the remaining café occupants start moving towards our heroes in a zombie like way!) Rock grabs Ella's banjo. (see told you!) Stella grabs Buff, and throws him over her shoulder; the two of them + one, run off towards the car. Stella: "Rock" Rock: "What?" Stella: "It's one of those 'Smart' Cars!" Rock: "So, any port in a storm!" Stella: "Buff won't fit in there; it's only a two seater!" Seconds later with Buff tied on to the roof rack; Rock and Stella head off into the night! Fade to black. End of act 1. Act 2 (The nutty prof') Later… (Still night time) Stella & Rock (with Buff) arrive at a Professor Xenophobic's House. Rock: "Perhaps the Prof' can sort out this weird stuff that's going on with these kooky kids!" Stella:"Yeah, the professor will have the answer, I'm sure!" The professor comes running out, waving various scientific instruments around that he has in his hands. Prof: "Vat's going on?" Rock: "Well Prof, we'd hoped you'd be able to tell us" Stella & Rock then sit and tell the Prof' everything that's happened to them on this strangest of days! Prof': (In a German accent) "Obviously somevun or someting is trying to take over zee Earth… again!....Vou must destroy the source! Vonce you werk out vere the transmitter is, you'll be able to stop the signal! I have a device in the udder room vat will do just vat. Vait here and I'll go get it!" The Prof' leaves the room, Stella & Rock sit patiently, smiling at each other (actually Rock has seen a mirror just behind Stella, and he's staring at himself) We see the professor searching around a room full of weird half finished gizmos, and then he sees the device he'd mentioned earlier. As he grabs it, the phone next to him rings. Absentmindedly he picks up the receiver. Prof: "Jaaa…….oooooough." Stella & Rock look at each other in horror, (having heard the phone ring) stand up and rush into the room where the Prof' disappeared. Too late the Prof' looks back at them in a Zombie like state… Stella & Rock run outside being chased by the Prof' who has one of his half finished gizmo's in his hands above his head, aiming it at the running couple! He fires it twice, but misses! Stella & Rock quickly jump into the car and drive off at full speed. End of Act 2. Night time. Stella & Rock are sitting around a campfire. (Buff is still on the car roof, but he's awake and eating!) After a song or two: (here's why we refer to the banjo) Song lyrics: I met her in the graveyard mugging mourners I can still recall that blood red dress she wore; She was smellin' kind of funny in the twilight; And I realised what strong deodorants were for. It soon was clear I'd be with her forever; She said to me "our love will never die"; But who'd have thought she'd drop dead in my pickup; So I pushed her off a bridge and waved goodbye. Stella: (Interrupting) "…Do you think it could be something to do with those new radio masts that have been put up at the creepy old Marston place? I heard they went up without planning consent!" Rock: "No! (Staring into the camera) (Long pause) It's something to do with the phones!" Stella: "Well I want to get over there and check 'em out anyway!" Rock: "Ok!" Later… (Dusk) :Cue Thunderstorm: Rock & Stella, (with Buff still on the roof rack, arrive at the Creepy old Marston Place. (There's a sign, faded and rusty outside) ' The Creepy Old Marston Place' Narrator: When they arrived at the Creepy old Marston Place, Stella notices that the aerials are glowing funny. Stella: "Look! The aerials are glowing funny!" Rock, runs over and shoots at the Radio masts! (About 20 odd times, as is normal for one of those old six shot-guns in these sorts of movies) Rock: "Die alien life-form! Get back to your own planet you commies!" Stella: "Rock, look over here in the barn. It's a UFO… and it's parked!" Narrator: Sure enough, we see a huge silver saucer shaped spacecraft, with its hazard lights on! Narrator: Rock runs over, but too late, as the alien creature comes out of the barn and grabs Stella around the throat! (From the front) with one of its four arms! Rock: "Leave her alone, you creature from outer space bully!" Suddenly there's a loud THWACK!!! And the alien topples over Stella: (to Rock) "Do you think it's the Earth's germs that killed it?" Buff, appearing from behind the dead alien's body say's " No Stella, Rock already told you… (Staring into the camera) It's the phones! " In Buff's hand is an old style telephone receiver covered in alien goo, which he's just used to kill the alien. Our three heroes stand and laugh! The End. Favourite quote: "The Day the Earth caught fire, froze, stood still, was invaded by Triffids, and went up against the Flying Saucers!... That was a bad day indeed!" (Sam)
